You will create a two color poster design using either Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator. You will be introduced to what makes a good poster design. You will evaluate several poster designs, learn the steps to creating a screen printed poster design as well as being responsible for creating a unique, well thought out design of your own. Once the designs are complete, you will learn the full screenprinting process on paper and become certified to use Open Studio at Ink Lounge. The one day workshop will cover the basics of screenprinting on paper. The workshop will cover art, film prep, screens, mesh, emulsion, squeegees, inks, exposure, registration - pretty much everything you need to know to get up and printing. Printing: You’ll be printing 10 prints of a single image you create or select from our library. Final size of print is 11x17 and you will use the same 2 inks colors on all 10 prints, but on 10 colors of paper so you get a chance to see how the inks react with different paper colors.
I started out with a few sketches

After critiques, I decided to go with the concept of Kanye west standing in the rafters for a Donda poster. I decided to redraw this image

I first experimented with redrawing the whole thing- it did not go well. Redrawing the Kanye figure is almost impossible; it just ends up looking like a pudgy snowman

I then pivoted to putting a filter over the image and fixing certain things to look straighter. I was very fond of the sort of "messy" look.

this is what it looked like

from there it was designing the text. I tried to find a font that fit the poster and settled on a generic font. from there I used the pen tool to disfigure it to match the aesthetic

Here's the whole look

Time to screen print. I separated the layers and decided to make Kanye red to match his iconic coat from his performance. I prepped the screen by covering it with emulsion and put the transparency in. After having the screens it was time to print. Here is a video of that

after printing, it was time to reclaim the screen. here is a video of that

finally, the result
